Reis Park has been a lifeline for many of us in the community. The
families in the community enjoy all aspects of the park.
The current courts at Reis Park are used by school tennis teams,
families, people of all ages, and children at the town camp in the
summer. A growing number of Somers residents have rediscovered the park
due to the increase in popularity of playing pickleball. Tennis and pickleball players utilize the same courts.
The courts (courts #4, 5 & 6) at Reis Park require
immediate renovation. The waffle plastic surface on half of the
courts is worn and dangerous. If left in their present condition, the
town could be liable for serious injuries.
It is imperative for the
town to immediately repair these courts by removing the waffle weave, resurfacing
the courts with a hard-court surface appropriate for tennis and pickleball and removing
the basketball hoops from inside the court area - as they pose dangerous
conditions for players. In addition, the current lighting is inadequate and
needs to be replaced. Proper lighting will make the courts safer and accessible
to the residents of the town in the evenings.
By renovating these
courts, the town will prove that it cares and listens to the needs of its
residents. It will show that it is mindful of the benefits of an active
lifestyle for all ages.
Thank you for your help
and support with this initiative.
Please renovate the tennis courts at Reis park. My granddaughters play tennis there and some of the courts are becoming hazardous.
