The city officially rejected the Edge on Brickell proposal. It has been a long and exhausting road but the outcome shows that the law still matters here. We have to keep watching the waterfront to ensure this kind of overreach does not return.

Miami Needs Smart Growth!
As downtown Miami residents living on the river, we know that the Miami River’s potential has not been realized. We need development along the river to provide parks, walkways, bike paths, restaurants, and even appropriate residential communities to bring new life to the river. We need Smart Growth. The Edge on Brickell project is NOT Smart Growth. The project proposes a 58-story tower on a parcel sized for a few townhomes or shops. The project ignores the waterfront setback requirements in our City Charter and Miami 21, and it does nothing to create the public waterfront that those documents promise. The developer of this lot is seeking the City’s approval to waive a significant number of building requirements.
Let the Planning Zoning and Appeals Board and our Commissioners know that the Miami River deserves Smart Growth that complies with the law and the City’s vision for a vibrant riverfront.

Como residentes del centro de Miami que viven en la orilla del río, sabemos que el potencial del Río Miami no se ha realizado. Necesitamos desarrollo cerca del rio si queremos animar la construcción de parques, senderos, ciclovías, restaurantes y para traer nueva vida al río. Necesitamos desarrollo inteligente. El proyecto, The Edge on Brickell” NO es un desarrollo inteligente. El proyecto propone una torre de 50 pisos en una parcela de tamaño para casas adosadas o tiendas. El proyecto ignora los requisitos de la constitución de Miami tanto como los de Miami 21. El proyecto no hace nada para crear en el malecón que prometen esos documentos.
Hágale saber a nuestros elegidos que el Río Miami merece desarrollo inteligente que cumpla con la ley y la visión de la Ciudad para una ribera vibrante.

The emails I get from the city office remain dismissive but the sheer volume of eyes on this petition is making them look up from their desks. I am exhausted by the constant legal stalling tactics of the developers yet I see no path forward other than continuing to push back.

Well, I think that we should a more and smart overall view of the actual City development. But for what it looks, some people they are not putting a lot of efforts on that issue. 58-storey's tower is pretty high for a river front situation. Well beyond than too high. That's my opinion. As a long-time resident of the Riverfront area, I strongly oppose the development of The Edge condominium. It is not feasible to build housing on such a small plot of land, and will be detrimental to the entire area.
I oppose this project because it does not meet the requirements that have been put in place and agreed upon for this zone. As a property owner in the area, I want smart growth so that my investment appreciates in value.
Fix our infrastructure, flooding problems, traffic issues and give us more green space. Stop making the situation worse and building more residents that are tanking our property values because of empty residents, over building and no care for our neighbors.
How can you build the 58 story building in such small parcel of land? This will harm the river and the river front living extensively! Please stop the greed and think about our city!
