This petition is for smaller narrower buses around Portishead. The existing virtually empty Double & Single Decker buses will then operate from a hub to cover the external busy routes.

Portishead to Bristol, Cribbs Causeway, Clevedon and onwards. The use of smaller buses around the town will make the following improvements.

For parents of children it is a must to consider just what's in the air your children are breathing. By the use of one or two small buses around Portishead will reduce the Nitrogen Dioxide & Particulate (that's particles so small that you cannot see them) around the town.

So, to summarise the benefits of smaller narrower buses :-

Improve traffic flow.

Improve air quality by reducing Nitrogen Dioxide and Particulate. Especially in the High Street.

Reduce noise levels and damage to the foundation of property.

Stop damage to the infrastructure and cars caused by the large vehicles.

Make a better environment in every way for all of us.

The following comment was added to the petition by one of the residents.

This makes sense on so many levels. Residents are cut off from the main bus route in some areas and some cannot walk far enough to get to the main bus route i.e. North Weston, Redcliffe Bay, The Lake grounds. With developers relentlessly building in every piece of land, the population continues to increase, the roads are no longer wide enough for double decker buses.

I have spent the last few afternoons counting the massive buses that rattle past my own front window and the vibrations are honestly hard to ignore. Seeing your personal stories and frustrations about these oversized vehicles navigating our tight streets confirms that I am not alone in wanting a safer town for our kids.

October 31, 2018

Seeing this grow makes me think of my own children walking along the High Street and breathing that heavy air every single day. The momentum behind this movement confirms that I am not the only one tired of seeing our roads clogged by empty giants while our lungs suffer.

Our property has a perfect view a long stretch of Phoenix Way and it is a common occurrence to see the large buses mounting the kerbs and ploughing up the verges as struggle to get past cars on bends, let alone other oncoming buses.

They stopped one of the little buses which older people really relied on to get out and actually see people. Surely something can be sorted out

This would be a very sensible solution particularly outside of rush hour times. Some areas of the town are incredibly congested with parked cars and traffic and this would make it much easier, quicker and safer for buses to get around

Our house shakes and invades all our privacy in our town house on Newfoundland way , smaller single deckers would fix this problem.

Link all of Portishead together, smaller buses can travel around hillside road along the lake grounds and lido end that has no links via public transport!

Totally agree with this and support all of the statements. This is completely makes sense. It is awful that the massive orange buses have caused all this havoc....I really hope things can change.

Smaller buses would help the community so much. It’s just sensible!
