Impey St Bus route changes

Dear Lake Placid and Red Peak residents, This petition has been started to bring to the attention of the Council and Translink our dissatisfaction with the new bus route on Impey St and through Red Peak

· We are a small quiet suburb and the road is unsuitable for such regular heavy vehicles.

· Children are very often cycling to and from school, walking dogs or travelling to and from the park and playgrounds and are forced now to share the road with the buses as there are no footpaths

· The road through Red Peak is narrower, has blind corners and little parking this forces buses, cars and pedestrians into the same piece of road

· Buses frequently speed through the suburb compounding the issue

· The frequent noise of the buses passing our homes from very early to very late at night is not a part of the safe, quiet suburb that we all chose to live in

· The residents have yet to see one person board/alight the bus along Impey St or Red Peak and the majority of buses appear to have very few people on board

· To our knowledge NONE of the residents were consulted about these changes, when consulted Council have blamed Translink for the change and Translink have blamed Council!

Please sign to show your support and help win back the peace, quiet and safety of our little communities.

Updates

October 22, 2014

I spent the afternoon watching the buses navigate those blind corners near the park and it confirmed everything we already know about how dangerous this route is. My inbox is full of messages from neighbors who are just as frustrated as I am about the lack of communication from the Council. We are currently preparing a formal letter to demand a seat at the table where these decisions were made.

Seeing this momentum grow proves that I am not the only one terrified for the safety of our neighborhood kids when they walk to the park. It is a relief to know my neighbors feel the same frustration about the constant noise and the danger on these narrow streets. Council can no longer pretend we just do not notice these empty buses rattling past our front doors.

Its ridiculous how fast these huge buses go down such a narrow street. My front fence shakes every time one drives past and its only a matter of time before someone gets hurt.

The bus regularly stops infront of our house late in the evening and it seems like our walls are about to cave in. The noise is just incredible.

Impey street is home to many children who use the street to cycle to school and often have to cross the road to visit friends. Many of the buses using impey street are travelling too fast for a suburban street with poor lighting and no footpaths. The buses seem to be very under utilised. If the service is to be continued I wuld like to see a compulsory 40kph limit imposed on Impey street and speed bumps installed. Does it have to take the death of a child to get something done... I suspect it will.
