We, the family and friends of Samantha Koenig, are petitioning the Alaska State Legislature to create August 30th Samantha Koenig day, in honor of her life. We ask people who knew her, or knew her story to please sign the petition. We are hoping to obtain at least 1000 signatures before Samantha's birthday in August. I just saw the number hit a hundred and I stopped dead in my tracks because that is so many people thinking of her all at once. It feels like a small wave starting and I keep reading the names over and over since it honestly feels like a hug from everyone.

I see we have suddenly started moving again towards that first hundred mark and honestly my hands are shaking a bit typing this because of how much it means to see names appearing on the screen. If you find a spare moment today just tell one other person about this page because getting to that triple digit milestone would be such a huge help for the momentum we are building right now.

I was here when this happened and was shocked and sickened for the family, friends, community and customers of Samantha. I attended each planned event and u could feel the fear, anger, worry and sadness all around u. This city was so heartbroken
Taken too soon and never forgotten. I always think of her when passing any coffee stand esp common grounds. My condolences, I look forward to wearing green on August 30
Sam was my neighbor growing up. It's sad this wasn't already a day dedicated for her. She was so fun, I think about her every day. Not a day goes by without a memory flooding. Such a kind and funny girl to be around.
Samantha and I went to school together from elementary all the way until she left West. We weren’t close friends but we still said Hi to each other and asked how each other was doing. She was a bundle of joy and laughter whenever we’d talk. Her laugh was always infectious and so was her smile. She has been greatly missed in this world.
I do not know her personally but she will always have a place in my heart. I was just thinking of her 2 days ago. This would really mean so much for her family and our state, since Alaskans are so supportive of one another. Sometimes when one hurts we all feel the pain in some way.
