On April 18th, the SFPUC began adding groundwater from the Westside Aquifer to our Hetch Hetchy drinking water supply. This groundwater has unsafe levels of contaminants and is only minimally treated. It should not be used for drinking.
Tell the SFPUC to stop mixing contaminated groundwater with our good drinking water!
Demand that:
- All San Francisco drinking water must meet or exceed our current Hetch Hetchy water quality.
- Groundwater should not be used for drinking water.
- Use groundwater for irrigation, firefighting, and street cleaning.
- The SFPUC must develop a plan to provide an adequate supply of high-quality drinking water during an emergency until full service is restored.

Don't be like Flint, MI. Don't make this a disaster. Please stop putting unsafe ground water in our faucets. All Hetch Hetchy, All.The.Time Do.It.Now! Sincerely, parent, home owner, long-time resident, tax payer, VOTER!
I do not want ground water in my drinking water. The quality of the taste & smell is nasty, I stopped drinking out of the tap, I first filter it then process it in a distiller & the smell is still there & it still doesn't taste good. Why is our district the only one in SF to have ground water mixed in with our Hetch Hetchy water?
Contaminated Ground water is great...for cleaning filthy streets, watering parks and for burning buildings. But please...Not in our Hetchy Hetchy drinking water!
Use of groundwater in an emergency is acceptable, but blending SF's Hetch Hetchy water on a regular basis is unacceptable. There was inadequate notice to the public that this change was under consideration.
Considering that the Bay Area is known to have heavy metals contamination, it should be obvious that it is not a good idea to mix local ground water into the drinking water we receive from the Hetch Hetchy reservoir.
There is no excuse for poor public policy like this. Absolutely no excuse. Keep the ground water out of our Hetch Hetchy Drinking Water. San Francisco has taken pride in the quality of our drinking water for many years.
Keep our water toxin free, no contaminated ground water added.

I’ve tested my tap water and it has changed since April from 28 ppm to 67 ppm! My Brita filter, which used to bring it to 10 ppm now isn’t able to filter out whatever is in the water, because after filtering the water remains at 67 ppm. It also has a meltallic taste, which is why I tested it.
