The best way to explain is to give the scenario
Child A - lets call him David is born on March 31st 2005. In September before he was 5, his primary offered him a full time place.
Child B - Lets call her Alana is born on April 1st 2005 - just 15 hours after David. In September before she was five, her primary school refused to allow her a full time place.
The thing is - this is the SAME school, and they only have 10 children in the WHOLE year!
Surely this is an unfair and ridiculous ruling, that cannot have any logical reasoning! Even after appealing, Alana was told she would not be permitted a full time place until January.
So, segregated from her friends at this most important juncture of life - how is she meant to view the school system as a fair system that will educate her!
We contacted the local council who made this decision, and were told they would not make any exceptions, despite the fact the Alana has been in school since she was 6 weeks old, and is more adjusted than most at her age!
My response from Mr Bryan Cash at Wiltshire LEA stated that unless there is a "massive petition" and a majority of people acting to change the rule - then it wont ever change!
Another example of stiffled councils working for themselves and cutting down the workload, rather than standing up for the children that will go on work and live in this, what once was, a great country.
I am contacting every primary school in the UK, and I will aim to contact every parent of children this ruling affects to get their opinion so we can present it to local councils right across the country.
Together we can make a difference. It maybe wont help Alana get a full time place now, but maybe it will help your little ones when it's their turn to start school!
If you could sign the petition - ask anyone you know to log onto it and with numbers, there is power. We can change the system!
Thanks

This is just madness. 15 hours difference shouldnt change a childs entire start to school life. My son was an April baby too and it was such a struggle with the council. Sort it out!!!!
