Costessey Primary school have proposed a new uniform which will include a tie and also a navy jumper with a sky blue trim, which can only be purchased from a specialist store.

This petition is to ask the school to reconsider its decision so that families of Costessey Primary school can purchase the uniform in supermarkets (i.e. a single colour). This was something that many of the parents who filled in the forms did request from the school.

JUMPERS

Costessey Primary school is situated in an area with a mix of middle to low income families, with many families having more than one child at the school. The decision to pursue a uniform which can only be bought at a specialist shop will cause needless stress and financial strain on families and could cause segregation in school for children who are on the poverty line. Every family is different and many are not entitled to funding, but will still struggle to cover the cost.

There are many cases of jumpers going missing and also, certainly in the younger children, many jumpers getting ruined by pen and paints. For many families they will not be able to replace these jumpers.

TIES

It is the belief of many parents who have already expressed their concern online that ties represent a significant hazard to younger children.

Seeing so many of you rally behind this issue shows I am not alone in my frustration. It is exhausting to fight for basic common sense, but your encouragement keeps me moving forward.

There was no option on the original form with an option to put a trim on the sweatshirt. What happens when other children keep drawing pen all over my sons jumper like they normally do - who’s paying for replacements? Just a standard jumper please

School uniform should be available to buy at any main stream store ,ie single colour garments ,For children of a primary school age to wear a tie is a very serious health and safety issue ,has a risk assessment been completed on this ?

My daughter struggles getting shoes on the right feet let alone a tie! It is very inconsiderate of the school considering the questionnaire that they asked us to fill in with out thoughts. I even put a comment on mine suggesting it needs to be easily available to families and cost efficient.

No to tie the children are too young at this age to wear a tie and will constantly need replacing when lost even if a clip on. Some children with special needs at this age will get stressed at this age. Uniform needs to be low cost and the supermakets provide high quality items at a lower cost.

Please reconsider. I could barely afford one jumper at the prices they charge let alone several. And shirts and ties for 4yr olds are a ridiculous idea! Unless teachers want to spend the best part of their day redressing children!?!

I myself have multiple children to buy school uniform for and am already worrying about how I am going to afford it. Being able to shop around in supermarkets would make a massive difference in total cost.

I think having a smart uniform is great for the children and the school. However as others have expressed it does need to be affordable for everyone, and keeping it as plain as possible will make it more accessible for everyone. Really disappointed white shirts are still there, totally impractical as are the ties.

I only have 1 child remaining with 1 school year left. I will not be replacing everything for 3 terms of school! I think it should be filtered through.
