This petition is relevant to the parents of the girls attending St Martin’s junior and infant schools in Epsom. We would like to open a dialougue with the school head teacher with regards to the colour of the girls skirt in the uniform policy. Currently girls are expected to wear a royal blue skirt in contrast to the boys who can wear grey shorts or trousers. The royal blue skirt is only available in one style from a preferred supplier or online from amazon. These options are not very well made and are generally ill fitting. We would like the school to open a dialogue with the parents to consider a change to the policy to let the girls wear a grey skirt. These are readily available on the high street, generally of better quality and comparable or less cost. This will also bring the policy for the girls inline with that of the boys.

ive been getting so many messages from people dealing with the exact same frustration regarding these skirts and the limited buying options. im currently pulling together notes to request a meeting with the head teacher to show them how much this matters to all of us.

im still processing how much traction this is getting. it feels good to see everyone agreeing that those blue skirts are just not working for our kids.

It would be good if I could shop around as my little one is very slender so nothing fits well and most things need to be adjusted so if I could find the best fit with little adjustment that would be great.
I have children in Vole and Dormouse classes and echo the comments of others in the challenge of finding good quality and good value royal blue skirts. Given that girls (and boys) are allowed to wear grey trousers or shorts, I don’t understand why the same can’t apply to skirts and pinafores.
I have daughters in Rabbit and Hawthorn classes. Having bought, at great expense, skirts from the recommended supplier, I found these didn't fit my daughter well and was forced to buy the Amazon skirts. They are poor quality and I am constantly having to repair them, which as a full time working parent I don't have time for. I'd happily buy the blue skirts if they were readily available from a supplier such as M&S but it would appear the colour is not common enough to make it viable for such suppliers to sell them. Consequently I support the suggested change in uniform policy to allow grey skirts which will be easier and cheaper for parents to purchase.
The Royal blue skirts are a lovely colour so it is a shame that local stores such as M&S do not stock them. The quality of the skirts available on line is not ideal. It would be sensible to have the option of grey skirts which would look smart with the white tops and royal blue cardigans. This would be in keeping with the boys' uniform.
The price, availability and quality of the royal blue school skirts is disgraceful. It makes life as a parent very hard financially and they are not easily available if needed at short notice because of their poor quality and how easily they can rip and get damaged.

I don’t have girls at the school but I feel it’s unfair for the parents to only be able to buy these from 2 possible retailers. Also my friends girls’ often complain they find the skirts uncomfortable so a better level of choice for both affordability and comfort seems more sensible, whilst all still looking smart.
