We don't want the junction at Newbottle closing as this will only create problems elsewhere ie Houghton Town Centre.

What we do want is an alternative

Closure is not an option. Delayed response times for emergency vehicles, many vehicles having to make longer journeys and more congestion in Houghton, Grasswell, Newbottle and Shiney Row. A roundabout or traffic signals like at Ramside are the only options.

How it the next juction along (Houghton cut) going to cope. When they closed the newbottle junction a couple of months ago traffic was backing up the cut sliproad onto the A690. Also how does this fit with the proposals for new houses in Philidelphia and sedgletch?

NO to the closure at the junction at Newbottle. Either put traffic lights or roundabout there. It should not matter about the cost as Sunderland wastes money on other roundabouts ( the one at sea burn for example ) and this is to save lives not for decoration !

This may seriously affect Rens Deli a local business, the A690 provides a through road from Doxford Park directly to a few small businesses down that way... I can't remember been given a choice whether the community wanted this to go ahead...

diabolical that the people of Newbottle and surrounding area, businesses etc have to suffer. You should ask the community what they want before making a decision as im sure it wont affect you (Council) but it will affect this community!!!!

Just shutting it seems to be the easy answer, why does it cost upwards of £2M to put a roundabout in place and also take 2-3 years? Something not right about that, we need a solution that is acceptable to the majority of local residents, who will be directly affected

Alternative option should be pursued; this affects business, forces routes already overcrowded in peak times; house values not to mention the additional expense and inconvenience. This is not a safety measure but typical local authority looking to save money by doing the bare minimum. It's amazing how they are funding unnecessary bridges instead of real inward investment in to communities.

I think this would be a foolish closure. The junction is much easier to negotiate now that the grass verges have been tarmaced. Visibility is hugely improved. It would cause increased journey times, especially for taxi journeys, and impact severely on the village of Newbottle. Not to mention increased traffic through Houghton. It seems an ill thought out knee jerk reaction.
