Alternative option should be pursued; this affects business, forces routes already overcrowded in peak times; house values not to mention the additional expense and inconvenience. This is not a safety measure but typical local authority looking to save money by doing the bare minimum. It's amazing how they are funding unnecessary bridges instead of real inward investment in to communities.

I think this would be a foolish closure. The junction is much easier to negotiate now that the grass verges have been tarmaced. Visibility is hugely improved. It would cause increased journey times, especially for taxi journeys, and impact severely on the village of Newbottle. Not to mention increased traffic through Houghton. It seems an ill thought out knee jerk reaction.

What about access to Newbotlle from emergency services? Diverting to Houghton and through Grasswell will delay response times.. Has no one thought of this?

Stupid idea - the junction needs to be kept open.

Closing the junction inconveniences the majority. Traffic lights may be costly but in the long run would be less costly than changes needed so that other junctions can cope with the extra diverted traffic.

reduced speed limit on A690 run up to the junction to give drivers more time to safely cross over
