Rocklin school children deserve access to a actual school nurse.  Rocklin Unified School District is considering a budget proposal that eliminates credentialed school nurses in its schools.  All comparable school districts in the Placer and Sacramento Counties have credentialed school nurses on staff and usually on a school site at least one day a week.  A credentialed school nurse is a Registered Nurse that has received a Bachelor's in Nursing and a School Nurse Credential from a University and the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.  Credentialed school nurses received advanced training in education and the link between the health and academics of a student and are a resource for staff, students and families. They assist families with the navigation of health issues that impact children's learning. Credentialed school nurses are advocates for children with chronic diseases and train staff to understand conditions like diabetes, seizure disorders, cardiac conditions, asthma, food allergies, acute health emergencies and other health issues that can complicate a child's daily school experience.  They are licensed or educated to perform mandated health screens that can complicate learning or lead to life long disability such as vision disturbances, hearing loss and scoliosis.  Rocklin children deserve the same access to a credentialed school nurse as the children in Roseville, Lincoln, Penryn, Eureka, Granite Bay, Auburn, Newcastle, Folsom, Elk Grove and Sacramento have.  Support keeping credentialed school nurses in Rocklin schools by signing our online petition to let our Rocklin School Board know that Rocklin residents value having a credentialed school nurse for our children.  Thank You
