The council has officially scrapped the plans to build on Bassingthorpe Farm. I still cannot believe we successfully protected these fields for our families and future generations. We need to stay vigilant but today we celebrate this massive victory.
The Bassingthore Action Group are residents of Rotherham and surrounding areas opposed to the development of Bassingthorpe Farm, a large area of green belt land stretching from Greasbrough To Rawmarsh (Rotherham)
The Group has found out by accident of the councils plans to build 3600 homes on this area of natural beauty.
At no point has the council had any consultation with the local community and with only 2 weeks to register any complaint (31st July) we feel this is totally unfair.
The Council had organised meetings for people to voice objections in surrounding areas, but as no one was informed only a handful of people turned out.
Hopefully this petition will help us protect the place we live.
I have spent my evenings walking the trails at Bassingthorpe Farm and thinking about how much we stand to lose if these fields disappear under concrete. The council continues to ignore our questions but the stories you are sharing here are fueling my resolve to fight for the home my family loves.

One hundred of us have already spoken up for our neighborhood. I look at these fields every morning and know exactly why this fight matters for our families.

I walk along Greenbelt and the surrounding countryside with my dog every day. This would be horrible!! I love the countryside, don't do this. The wildlife is lovely along Greenbelt

I think its wrong to use more of the greenbelt for new housing development. There are plenty of vacant spots around Rotherham that houses could be built on.
Having extra housing estates puts additional pressure on already full schools and GP surgeries

The destruction of greenbelt land has to stop. There must be other brown or industrial sites that could be sourced for this type of project. Destroying green landscapes and areas wildlife depend upon is not something easily reversible either. Look at the state of the Evri landscape now. Looks horrendous. Leave green belt alone !!

Bassingthorpe farm does not need to be a housing estate it has been farm land for many many generations been a popular area by all locals to enjoy the scenery and fresh air, greasbrough will not be able to handle any more traffic or drainage from another housing estate as flooding is already an issue

Looking at the plans speaking to the planners who have never been on site, from traffic problems, drainage problems to the increased risk of flooding.
Mining problems, the whole proposal is a joke

The local area cannot manage this additional number of houses. The local roads are already congested, the schools at capacity and impossible to get gp appointments. The green belt land is important to the local area and many more areas not green belt that could be used to build. Get the empty homes filled before building more!

We need to design with nature in mind to build a sustainable future. Taking green belt land now is not the solution. Use brown belt first. Once it is gone, it is gone. Look at other solutions first like builds in other countries.
