Wewish to prevent any further development of the land in between Hellifield and Long Preston in particularly the land around and including the Hellifield Flashes. The development of this land has been targetted by a developer for a holiday village and we wish to stop this and protect the Hellifield Flashes from ill-conceived, over development. The land provides a sanctuary for migratory birds, it is of extreme importance to locals and should remain agricultural land as it is now. We object to the suggested Leisure Park plans and any other plans to develop this area of countryside.

This proposal has nothing to do with housing. It'seems all about a profit generating scheme. There will be no benefit to the community. If approved the development will have an impact on wildlife and will cause greater pollution to the immediate area due to an increase vehicle movements. Why spoil an area of natural Beauty?

I am a guide on the Settle Carlisle railway and pass through this area of land every day. To see it developed on would be a huge shame as it would ruin a lovely, picturesque view which many tourists come to visit.

Too much virgin land is being stolen for building purposes. When it is gone it is forever. What sort of legacy is this for our children and grandchildren. Let them know the beauty of the countryside and save this very valuable area.

This area will not benefit from transient groups of people staying for short periods of time who have no long term interest in this community. In addition, this lands floods regularly. If it is built on, the floods will need diverting and will cause damage to the existing infrastructure.

How can a local authority allow development on one of North Yorkshire's finest wildlife sites for no other reason than profit to the developer? Over 600 Lapwing and many other threatened species have been basing themselves on the Flashes over the late summer - the plans do not explain where they are expected to go!

Do we seriously need another lot of holiday cabins when we already have a caravan park directly opposite this site. Shouldn't we be trying to conserve our countryside and the wildlife habitats, instead of destroying what is left of them.

When will we view nature as the precious and valuable resource that it is?
