We the undersigned do hereby petition Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council to immediately stop all action in relation to the sale of Clayton Road Field and to maintain the field as it is currently, in public ownership, for the benefit of the local community indefinitely. Without any consultation of local residents, the Council decided in July 2010, to sell Clayton Road Field and 3 other sites to build houses on. It is just plain wrong that this decision was taken without any consultation or thought to the detrimental health effects it would have on children and others who use the field to play sports and take exercise. There should have been a public consultation BEFORE, not after, a decision was taken. After taking the decision, the Council did not notify local residents until January 2011: a period of six months. This is grossly unfair and totally dishonourable as those opposed to the sale now have only a few weeks to prepare arguments against the sale whereas those in favour of the sale have had over six months to prepare their case.
