the council officially voted to kill the ordinance and preserve our property rights. i am honestly blown away by the support and so glad we dont have to worry about this nonsense anymore. thanks for sticking with me while we fought to keep the village exactly how we like it.

STREET ADDRESS MUST BE INCLUDED IN COMMENTS TO BE COUNTED
We are asking that taste not be legislated. The purpose of the proposed ordinance is to tell you whether or not the addition, new construction or alteration, color or fencing you are planning to do meets the Historic Preservation Commision's "taste" standards before you can build. This is even more restrictive than an HOA, it would be an actual ordinance that would encumber your property, new or old. The proposed ordinance is unnecessary, will cost the Town money, cost you money and create another layer of government.
If you love living in the Village with it's purple and pink houses woven into a tapestry of equally distinct and interesting homes that reflect not only the past, but the present and future, please sign the petition so the Town Council knows the true number of home owners that are against this ordinance.

I love the eclectic feel of the village as it is. We do not need this kind of over-reach. This is also unfair to those who already live there and may be priced out because they cannot afford to maintain their home. I am also concerned this type of restrictive measure may spill over to those who live outside of the village and not in HOA designated areas. This is a slippery slope.
110 S. Second Street 40 S. Fifth Street 515 W. Cedar Street 535 W. Cedar Street I own the four above-listed houses in the town. We have fought this battle before. Variances have been given instead of following existing rules. This has lead to another attempt to undermine the rights of property owners. I do NOT support this ordinance. My home address is 7555 S. Ford Rd.
I live in the village at 715 W Hawthorne Street. I feel that this is a solution that is looking for a problem. In other words, I don't think there is a problem with property owners expressing themselves through architecture and maintaining a diverse design language that evolves and progresses over the decades.
600 W. Ash Street This seems too extreme. I would support stopping how many variances are allowed that lead to these giant village houses that cover every square inch of the lot. My 1970 built home has no historic character whatsoever and it would be absurd to require following and 1970 random “historic” design rules.
This is a TERRIBLE idea. It will place extra expense, waiting time on property owners, pit neighbor against neighbor, limit the pool of real estate buyers, limit the ability of owners to update their homes. It is an imposition!
