Council is threatening to demolish Venus Bays DIY built extension. Single father and skateboarder Matt Butcher has come under the pump from local council for improving his local skatepark. Venus Bay skate park is old and out dated, and look like its something from a back to the future movie. Matt Decided to use his own time, money equipment and effort to give back to the community and give a usless space some meaning. Now council has deemed it unsafe and is going to pull all Matts hard work down! Sign this petition so we can show the council it is needed, and should not be removed, or at least help the see they need to find a way to work with Matt and the Venus Bay locals to improve the skatepark.

You should not punish those that work tirelessly for the greater good. These improvements have been well made, as can be seen in the photos documenting the build. Why does a council have money to demolish a skate park but not build one?

I have been coming here since i was a child and it would be a shame to see it destroyed as my kids now use it and dont believe it is dangerous in the slightest! No different from half of the Melbourne skate parks that have chips and cracks all the way through them..

It's clear that this dude done this before and knows what he's doing! Why pull it down, it's obviously been done to give the youth of the area somewhere better to hang out rather than them out doing drugs etc.

Surely Council can work with the community to make it meet all requirements rather than destroy something the community have done for themselves rather than rely on Council. Community doing it for themselves should be supported not destroyed.

I hope to see a positive outcome from this. If a situation becomes so lax on councils behalf that someone takes the time/skill and their own funds to build it them self surely the council can put some effort in to retroactively approve and if needed bring up to code rather than demolish this extension.

My children would have loved this park 25 years ago when they were teenagers.. My grandchildren love it now.. The council does little to nothing for Venus Bay, and yet we have the highest rates.. Instead of demolishing the skate bowl, how about bringing it up to the standard required...

Skating has its risks, DIY or concil built. Would love to skate that spot it looks like alot of fun. Putting in the effort money & time to improve a spot and giving the youth a safe place to skate (not the public streets) should not be condemned or punished but praised and rewarded.

Please save this place, I visit on a regular basis and use this facility. I would really hate to see it go. I'm also interested to see the new work finished, its a good upgrade.
