The council finally reversed their demolition plans for the skatepark. I am drained from this long fight but I am grateful that we kept this space for our community. We need to stay watchful to ensure they actually follow through on the new consultation process.

Citizens against the demolition of the Trinity Beach Skatepark!

We the people, respectfully demand that the CairnsRegional Council as a collective whole dissolve the proposition of the demolition of the Trinity Beach Skatepark, and undertake a thorough community consultation process to more adequately address the issues of anti-social behaviour and vandalism in the Trinity Beach and greater Cairns 'northern beaches' area.

Reaching this point has been an exhausting uphill climb but seeing the number of people who care about this park gives me the strength to keep pushing. The reality of what we are facing is heavy yet knowing I am not alone makes the work ahead feel possible.

Without an adequate consultative process, it is impossible to gauge whether the proposal for the demolition of the Trinity Beach skatepark, supported by Barron River MP Michael Trout and Division 9 councillor Greg Fennell, adequately aligns with the greater sentiment of the taxpaying members of the community residing within the geographical locale for which they are voted in to represent. As a matter of opinion, the fact that Mr Greg Fennell has been quoted as saying 'This will be a car park, as simple as that.' without any formal consultation process could, in the context it was taken, possibly be interpreted as high level of arrogance & disdain toward his constituents.

What a joke. Cairns council needs to listen to the locals for once instead of just turning everything into concrete.

My kids use this park every weekend. Greg Fennell is completely out of touch with what the families here actually want.

Total incompetence from the council here. They blame the kids for everything instead of doing their job properly.
