Save the Tradies Sports Bar
Dickson is about to lose an historical and key part of it's social fabric!
The Tradies Sports Bar first opened in 1964 and has been a integral part of the Canberra community ever since. The Dickson Tradies Club board plans to remove this long standing member benefit effective Tuesday 2 April. Members of the Tradies 35,000 member base are extremely disappointed to have not been consulted and about the closure of the Sports Bar.
This closure includes the removal of all pool tables, taking a huge part of the soul of the Tradies. The Tradies is home to many members who have been patrons for over 40 years, who regard the club as home. This community will be left without a place to visit every day with the people they have come to call family.
Over the years, the long-standing members have seen other social benefits, such as Bingo and Snooker tables, be removed from the club. Very soon, the Tradies may become a club only for housing poker machines and food and beverage facilities for those who play the poker machines.
As a member base club, not every decision should be about the most efficient way to take their members dollars. It should also aim to bring social member benefits, in particular to those who have been members for decades and visit the club near daily.
