I didn't attend Mt. Hope but theatre is just as important as the sports that school districts pour money into. Getting rid of the theatre dept is an unwise budget cut, by doing it you are alienating a large demographic in the student body.

It is truly appalling how often theater comes up on the chopping block, and the Mount Hope theater program is truly exceptional. There is no excuse for threatening the program's demise to save money, especially when it's one of the school's best features.

As mom of a theatre girl, the idea of this is astonishing to me. Theatre, like the other arts should be essential. It has given my daughter confidence, taught her to work for things she wants and helped her handle disappointment with grace.

Who would think that a well-rounded education would not include the Performing Arts. Is that how Bristol, RI wants to be seen by the rest of the state and country? From producing Shakespeare and Musicals every year to what Bristol? Really? What a Class act BWRSD. Bravo.

Performing arts was a place that was home to me in high school at Mt. Hope, I found many great friends, learned discipline and hard work, and gained many skills that are still vital to me this day. Shame on the school district for attempting to cut these important programs.

As a parent of a former student I find this outrageous! This program serves as an outlet for many students just as sports do for others. Not to mention the teacher is one of the best mentors and most amazing person. If this goes what’s next? Band? Chorus?

I watched a phenomenal performance tonight (4/29) of SpongeBob the Musical and then learned that this program is being cut. I am shocked and disgusted that students are not being put #1 over pennies. What I witnessed tonight was nothing less than an incredible performance that obviously has a strong group of 40+ students working hard and making our world better. Shame on ANYONE that pushes penny saving over student achievement.
