Final supporters
Due to budget issues and decreased student enrollment at the university, Indiana University South Bend is currently trying to obtain a new vendor to outsource the Child Development Center. This means current teachers, who the center’s current children have come to know and love, could potentially lose their jobs, and the policies and structure of the center, as a whole, could change.
As parents and students, we are relying on this center to provide a safe and loving environment for our two small children while we attend classes and advance our education. It is a strong reason that we chose to attend IUSB in the first place. We feel outsourcing would be a huge mistake, and sends the message that the one organization on campus that many nontraditional students, such as us, truly rely on, the university doesn’t feel is worth supporting!
By signing this petition you are agreeing that the Indiana University Child Development Center is something worth continuing to have on campus, and the school should be willing to support it!

The emails I get from other families about what this center means to their daily lives are heavy but keep me moving. I am spending my afternoons knocking on doors and demanding answers that the administration refuses to give. It is exhausting work but the teachers deserve better than being treated like a line item on a budget.

Reaching this level of visibility feels heavy but necessary. It is exhausting to keep fighting for the people who look after our children yet seeing this collective movement keeps me going. We are going to make sure the university understands what this center means to all of us.

I am an IUSB grad. I am proud to have graduated debt free. It does not bother me that it took over 5 years to complete my degree. It was recently reported in the news that the cost of higher education is increasing for the poor and what is left of the middle class. Giving up on the Child Dev Center will further hurt the group of IUSB students that need it the most. I was one of those local nontraditional students on which IUSB was built.
I am pretty disappointed in the decision myself. I can't help but feel like a second rate member of the campus . The CDC is the most valuable resource on campus to my family.
The childcare center and its amazing teachers helped me complete my degree. The childcare cost was reasonable and so convenient to have it onsite. I don't know what I would have done without it.
I earned two degrees from IUSB and could not have done it without childcare. Cut something else!
My son was in the CDC as long as he was eligible to be. The CDC staff is an excellent one that not only cares about providing a safe environment for kids but also cares about providing a quality one. Shutting down and/or outsourcing would be a huge mistake and would get rid of teachers who have dedicated many years to making the CDC such a great place .

The IUSB Child Development Center is one of the best early childhood education and care centers in this area. I feel it is essential that parents and staff work together with the new vendor to continue to provide our children with the outstanding care and education that they have been receiving.

If the CDC is shut down IUSB may lose some of it's non traditional student demographic as well as some of the teachers who rely upon the convenience of having this type of service on campus. The situation needs to be looked at with an extra set of eyes to see where other adjustments could be made.
