I am pretty disappointed in the decision myself. I can't help but feel like a second rate member of the campus . The CDC is the most valuable resource on campus to my family.

The childcare center and its amazing teachers helped me complete my degree. The childcare cost was reasonable and so convenient to have it onsite. I don't know what I would have done without it.

I earned two degrees from IUSB and could not have done it without childcare. Cut something else!

My son was in the CDC as long as he was eligible to be. The CDC staff is an excellent one that not only cares about providing a safe environment for kids but also cares about providing a quality one. Shutting down and/or outsourcing would be a huge mistake and would get rid of teachers who have dedicated many years to making the CDC such a great place .

The IUSB Child Development Center is one of the best early childhood education and care centers in this area. I feel it is essential that parents and staff work together with the new vendor to continue to provide our children with the outstanding care and education that they have been receiving.

Outsourcing the daycare is a bad idea if parents aren't given a choice on what will be avaliable in the future.

I quote the petition originator because she did it so well: "The curriculum at the center is currently “High Scope,” and that is something different from most other centers. Plus, the center caters to students, like my husband and I, who just need part-time care. Outsourcing this wonderful place would potentially mean losing not only some of these amazing teachers, but the entire structure of the center could change. The things that we as parent’s value most, small classes, loving teachers who actually have degrees and substantial experience in early childhood, and the ability to change schedules, as our school schedules change, could be gone! Not to mention, I don’t know of any other child care centers where having a month off for Christmas break would be acceptable. Parents would be expected to pay, even if they didn’t need services at that time. Finally, in about two and a half weeks registration begins for summer and fall classes. Not knowing what is going on with childcare, after June 30th, makes it impossible for parents who rely on the child development center to register. We don’t know who, if anyone, will be available to watch our children at those times." I agree with these points on 15Mar14. Keep the Center open every semesters, including summers, & under IUSB control. IUSB Alumnus BABS'86

In this day and age we are still struggling with helping moms with child care. Rediculous! We need to take a look at the Scandanavian countries and how they support young familes, education and child care.

If the CDC is shut down IUSB may lose some of it's non traditional student demographic as well as some of the teachers who rely upon the convenience of having this type of service on campus. The situation needs to be looked at with an extra set of eyes to see where other adjustments could be made.

I am an IUSB grad. I am proud to have graduated debt free. It does not bother me that it took over 5 years to complete my degree. It was recently reported in the news that the cost of higher education is increasing for the poor and what is left of the middle class. Giving up on the Child Dev Center will further hurt the group of IUSB students that need it the most. I was one of those local nontraditional students on which IUSB was built.
