Save the Grapeville Softball Field
The Grapeville Softball Field has been a stitch in the Grapeville community, and surrounding areas, for over 50 years. The land, and the field, were Sold to the Grapeville Volunteer Fire Department in 1961, after the passing of the former owner. The Grapeville Fireman’s Department was entrusted to maintain the field and the land so the community could continue to enjoy the park throughout the years.
Over the past 5 years, the President of the nonprofit Grapeville Co-Ed Softball League has poured his time and energy into making this field the ball-park it is today. Through fundraisers and donations, the league was able to collect enough money to make updates to the park so more adults and children could enjoy this area. With the help of many hard-working people, local churches and local businesses, the community came together to work on updating the park. Renovations included the picnic tables, concession stand, dugouts, fences, the ball-field itself and many other areas of the park. They also maintained the land by cutting the grass, cutting down falling trees and ensuring the park was a safe and clean place for everyone.
Many people of all ages from the Grapeville community and surrounding areas enjoy this park year after year. Athletes from the county look forward to playing in the co-ed softball league every summer. Families, friends and groups of people gather and hold picnics and special events at this park. Small children, teens and adults enjoy the basketball court, the baseball field, the playground, and wholesome fun by spending time with loved ones at the park.
The Members of the Grapeville Softball League have had plans on expanding the use of the softball field after renovations were made. Some of the plans consisted of inviting little league, for the younger children, and starting a girls softball program for the community. These updates and plans were being made to ensure future generations could continue to enjoy a safe and dynamic recreational park.
However, plans of maintaining and growing this beautiful community park have come to a halt. Unbeknownst to the residents of the community, and the many people from surrounding areas that love and utilize this park, the land is in the process of being sold. The fire department really should take the thousands of people’s opinions and feelings into consideration that love and enjoy this park!
There will be a Supervisors meeting on Monday December 23, 2019 at 7:00 pm open to the public. We would like to present this petition to show the department how important this park is to so many people and stop the sale of this beautiful community park.
Please take the time to sign this petition and help us to keep The Grapeville Park alive and flourishing!
