This petition is to stop the sale of the tennis courts at Gallagher Park in Pauanui.
This well used set of 4 tennis courts is the only recreational facility south of the airstrip and is thus utilised by a huge number of houses in that area. Despite misleading statements by the Pauanui Club the courts are widely popular on the weekends and holidays, noristhere evidence of the vandalism claims.
We believe that it is VITAL TO STOP THE SALE OF THESE COURTS FOR IN-FILL RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT as it is an important recreatinal facility for both thelocal residents/holidaymakers andthewider Pauanui community.
It's eventual use as a development site would set a disastrous precedent for the remainder of Pauanui. Let's stop the rotwhile we can!
Background (Preamble):
On Sunday 24 October 2010 The Pauanui Sports & Recreatinal Club Voted at a Special General Meeting to sell the land occupied by the Gallagher Park Tennis Courts, in order to pay for refurbishment of the club rooms.
The motion was passed 297 in favour to 118 against representing. Only 20 % of the total club measurement voted for the mothion while 80% either abstained or voted against the motion.The Clubincorrectly stated in their communications to the members that these courts are unused and are vandalised. These statements are incorrect as the courts are heavily patronised on the weekends and holidays, nor havelocal residentsseen evidence of vandalism.
This sale will allow residental devopment up to 12metre in height and will deprive the Pauanui area of the only recreational facility south of the airfield - these courts service a huge catchment area of 850 sections within the Pauanui community.
With the pressure from the new subdivisions near the entrance to Pauanui we need to retain all our existing reserves and recreational facilities. If sold future generationswill miss out.
One of the main reason people choose to buy at Pauanui is the reserves and recreational amenities.
We the undersigned, call on the Pauanui Sports and Recreation Club Members and the Thames-Coromandel District Council to save the Gallagher Park Tennis Courts at Pauanui from being sold.
Help us save these tennis courts that are important to us the Pauanui residents and holidaymakers.

I have been hearing from so many of you who spent your childhood summers playing on these courts. It is heartbreaking to see the club ignore the reality that these spaces are the heart of our community while they push for development.

Seeing this kind of movement in our community reminds me why I spent so many hours playing on these courts growing up. It proves that we refuse to let our green space be paved over for development.

So many memories on those courts. Please dont let them turn it into property. We need this space.
My kids play here every time we visit. Selling these off for houses is just short sighted greed. Leave our courts alone.
RIDICULOUS. We use these courts all summer. Who on earth thinks they are unused? Pure lies.
Stop the sprawl! We need space to move!
Pauanui is getting ruined by all this development. Keep the community spaces for the people not just more houses.

The club is being dishonest about the usage. Totally wrong to sell off public assets like this.
