Final supporters
The principles of access to school buses that are provided by government pose systemic barriers in remote areas as there is a requirement for minimum numbers of students in order to ‘justify’ or ‘qualify’ for provision of a bus service. This number being six. On our bus run we have five pupils at the current time. In the absence of this bus provision, school children will then dependent on parents to drive them to school and this is extremely problematic for the families on our run. In rural areas where numbers are significantly scarcer than our city counterparts, the Department of Transport and Main Roads are placing an unrealistic expectation on the minimum number of pupils on the run. Rural communities are statistically smaller and reducing in size and policies should be reflective on that to best support and continue to support our children.
The families on the “Gibber Gunyah” bus run have offered to pay for a mythical sixth child to help in assisting you to justify our bus run. This offer has been denied, as it is “policy”.
We depend on the great service that we have to get our children to and from school on time and safely. Do not disadvantage our children by taking away this service at the end of term 1, 2016!

im honestly blown away by how many people are backing this and it shows just how wrong this policy is for our community. the momentum is real and it makes me feel like we actually have a shot at keeping this bus run alive. thanks for sticking with us while we fight for our kids.

Once again ridiculous government rules, this week there maybe 5 but with a family move to the area can mean an additional 1 to 5 children. Wake up and realise that it is an essential service and if the government truly promotes getting an education they will stop their ridiculous demands and leave well alone.
Because you live on the land and are the backbone of our nation you don't deserve a little bit of help???? Don't you think our farmers are dong it tough enough at the moment?
as a past operator of this service , u realize that the women form a part of the hands on work force of this mixed farming district. clousher means more work for mum.....the parents subsudised my self at one stage to ease their workload
We need this bus run to support the families to keep their children at this school. Absence of this service could result in children having to be sent off to boarding school at a younger age as the distance and other committments of parents may make it impossible to drive their children to and from school on a daily basis.
Our children matter and frankly, I am tired of hearing that we are just numbers. By taking our bus run you are placing a huge burden on our families. I am unsure how I am going to get my children to and from school once this service closes at the end of term 1, 2016.
We have had our 5 services cut to 3 over the past 15 years or so the last one just 18mths ago. They all talk about money as the reason but I put it to them that the lng projects around the state should be getting massive royalties from them. Put some of that money back into BASIC services. We have had 8 hours a week added to our school week with the school closures and bus run cut backs. I also put it to the Dept that the 3.2km exclusion zone that you have to be outside has never changed in decades . It is that old and unchanged the reason it is 3.2km that that is the metric conversion for 2 miles. Good Luck.
