they just told us the bookstore is staying open. i cant believe we actually pulled this off and saved such a special place for the community. thanks for keeping the faith when things looked grim and let keep an eye on things to make sure it stays that way.

Final supporters
We, the customers and volunteers of the Friends’ Readers Bookstore at Fort Mason, propose that the non-profit, used bookstore be saved from permanent closure, as it’s an invaluable, irreplaceable resource to citizens of the Bay Area and the local literary community, as well as a popular destination for readers, book & record dealers, tourists, collectors, art lovers, neighboring businesses, antique sellers, students and children.
All the used books for sale are donated by the public and it has always made a profit, having very few staff and many volunteers. All the profits benefit the San Francisco Public Library, making it doubly beneficial to the Bay Area community! It’s an invaluable resource and asset to support the SFPL that should be saved from permanent closure.

Best thing About San Francisco’ Cannot imagine it not being there Have Been going with my child since he was a baby he is now 14 ❤️ Please don’t close our beloved bookstore with the lovely storekeepers xxxx
Besides being a great bookstore and place to hang out, this store has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the SF library system. It makes no sense at all to close it--it's a genuine SF institution.
In one of the few cities in the world that has an embarrassment of fine bookstores, this is one of the finest. Well-stocked, well-organized, roomy, comfortable -- a pleasant place to be, as well as to find book treasures and bargains.
Used bookstores are vanishing everywhere. The Friends store has created its own vital niche. If the lease is a problem, then negotiate a hiatus, and resume when the pandemic is over.
Closing the bookstore will end an important way of life for so many of us in San Francisco as both volunteers and customers. I know that the bookstore has always made a lot of money for the SF Library, and cannot understand the rationale for removing it. Please reconsider this terrible move.

Save the Friends of the Public Library Readers' Bookstore!! This is exactly the kind of place that gives San Francisco its heart - a sweet, enriching place in a beautiful location that isn't glamorous but is a gathering place for the city's readers. Please keep it alive in this cultural center of the city.
