The public of Venice asks to postpone the closing of the Venice Public Library and for the governing bodies to look into ways to keeping the service open until a location that is suitable in size and location to accommodate the citizens of Sarasota County can be obtained. We also request for public input to be heard on this matter.

The old Gulf Gate library was in bad shape for years and it also had a moldy odor. It took years for the county to plan a new library and they kept the old one open in the meantime. Something about the quick Venice library closing does not makes sense.

Keep the library open until the commissioners commit funds, new facility plans are drawn & approved, a clear and full time-line is established, and Venice FOL and county taxpayers are satisfied all public service needs can be effectively met.

The County has avoided due diligence in informing it's citizens by giving a mere 4 days notice to attend and make public comment on this matter. Nor have they given any valid reason for the rush to close in a non emergency situation.

I have lived in Venice since 1964. I went to the Venice Public Library every day after school and each weekend. It was my home away from home. Please keep not only a very important landmark but an institution of learning for all. Thank you Sàndy Menden

The library is a source of information and assistance for the people of Venice. As a senior citizen with limited vision I cannot, and would not, drive to Jacaranda library. Closing it would create a hardship for many of us in the same situation

Please don't close the library until there is an alternate location set up for use. Please also plan to rebuild in the same location, numerous children from the schools on the island use the library daily. My children and I use this at least once a week.

I feel that the City Council did not do enough groundwork on this matter. All I saw was that the Library was being closed due to mold problems. Was any attempt made to find a reasonable alternative solution.
