This outcome secures the legacy of the Harvard Exit for future creators and patrons alike. Please accept this petition from the many people, near and far, who are asking that the Harvard Exit theatre space be preserved in some format reflective of the history of the Harvard Exit and its role in Seattle and Capitol Hill arts and culture.
We understand that the building's infrastructure is in need of a remodel and concur that a bar and cafe/restaurant would be nice additions. However the theatre space has served for many decades as a vital component of cinema arts and culture; especially during events such as SIFF and the LGBT film festival.
Perhaps the theatre could be re-purposed from cinema only to a mixed format of cinema, concerts, readings, dance arts and lectures? This type of venue would weave nicely with the restaurant and bar concept.

The level of engagement regarding the future of the Harvard Exit confirms that this space remains a vital cultural asset for our community. We are encouraged by the growing consensus that a versatile venue serves the neighborhood better than total redevelopment. This momentum provides a strong foundation as we prepare to present these ideas to the project stakeholders.

Save this space for community film events like the Seattle Lesbian & Gay Film Festival and Translations: the Seattle Trans* Film Festival
This theater is a fundamental part of Capitol Hill and has been a cultural resource we will all be much the poorer for having lost it. Independent theater has a viable and relevant future both economically and socially. It is every bit as important as the symphony, opera and ballet halls for the cultural health of our fair city.
I would gladly volunteer my time to help save the downstairs theater, which would be a draw to the restaurant and bar. (Think Third Place Books and Elliott Bay Bookstore and their resident restaurants. Could there be a model there?
As a neighbor of the Harvard Exit theater, I hope that Scott Shapiro and Eagle Rock can find a way to preserve the beautiful first floor theater space as a performance and screening venue that will continue to draw people to the north end of Broadway.
Why not a restaurant AND theater...something like the Sundance Theaters or Living Room Theaters in Portland? This end of Broadway needs something unique to keep it vital. Our much loved Harvard Exit Theater serves that purpose. People will not come here for just another restaurant.
Please reconsider. A theater destroyed is gone forever.

The Exit theater is one of the last few spots that gives Capitol Hill its distinctive personality. Replacing it with office space will add nothing to the community; rather, it will contribute to the erosion of the soul of this neighborhood.
