I had trouble finding my place at private school so I transferred to a public school and the theater program took me in. I made tons of friends and without it my life would be so different.

A curriculum in the dramatic arts is essential at every school. Not only does is allow some stand out star-students a place to shine, it literally supports dozens of other academic and life skills. Aside from quelling the passions of a precious few, more importantly drama supplies a broad spectrum of academic opportunty. Promoting literacy doesn't get any better than in a drama room, as students not only engage in active reading, they must also analyze text both individually and collaboratively. This alone allows the fullest possible experience for building comprehension and critical thinking skills, while also providing a foundation to associate reading with something active and fun. History of ages dating back to Greece can be taught in the drama room and a wise teacher will work with the other staff to support the periods being covered in other classrooms! Liberal arts alone are not the limit, physical sciences such as light and sound can also be studied by incorporating "stagecraft" into the curriculum. In such a setting students may also be provided the chance to learn highly demanded vocational skills such as sewing, electrical work and carpentry. Finally, simple life skills - such as management, collaboration, public speaking, empathy, and

The Dramatic Arts teaches so much more than Acting. It gives students the tools to be confident in front of people, it teaches critical thinking and it teaches an understanding of human behavior. The Dramatic Arts allows people, and students are people, to tap into their creativity and allows them to express themselves. These are all skill needed to be successful in all areas of life. All jobs and vocations. Please do not take this important tool from our children. It is like telling them to go learn Math on their own time!
