A-level Drama will not be offered at Chichester College as of September 2023. This is an outrage. The arts have always been neglected by society, so we must do everything we can to protect them.
Not being able to take A-level Drama limits peoples options and career paths. Drama builds skills such as communication, creativity, teamwork and leadership. It also helps people develop a better understanding of the world through their exploration of different characters and plays. Many students will not get the college experience they want if they can't study Drama A-level. As of next year, there will only be one college within Chichester College Group to offer A-level drama.
Think about all of your favourite plays, musicals, TV shows and films. None of those would have been made if it wasn't for the study of Drama.

Chichester College management continues to ignore our struggle while they strip away our arts programs. I am drafting a formal demand to the board today because their silence on this cuts deep.

The momentum behind this is undeniable and it proves that Chichester College cannot simply erase the arts without a fight. This support shows that people are finally sick of their constant neglect toward creative education.

Studying the arts for me at A Level led to me studying them at degree level and then teaching those subjects for over 20 years. I am still performing as well. The arts do so much for self esteem, communication skills and creativity.
It is essential that A-level Drama continues to be offered at Chichester College - please review your decisions, thank you.
The World Economic Forum lists these attributes in the Top Skills for 2025; "Analytical thinking; Active learning; Complex problem solving; Critical thinking and analysis; Creativity, originality and initiative; Leadership and social influence; Resilience, stress tolerance and flexibility; Reasoning, problem-solving and ideation." Which is another way of describing any drama/theatre/arts study programme. And yet we are still viewed as ephemeral and [oh, horror] not academic enough. As a subject we challenge conscious and sub-conscious bias. As a subject we are the victims of an academic sub-conscious bias and, more invidiously, a conscious bias. Drama, and the Arts more broadly, are essential parts of a robust, multi-faceted education offering for the students of today and the citizens of tomorrow. Save Drama.

STUDYING DRAMA TEACHES MORE LIFE SKILLS THAN ANY OTHER SUBJECT. I ALLOWS STUDENTS TO EXPERIENCE LIFE OUTSIDE OF THE CAMPUS. IT TEACHES CREATIVITY, MANAGEMENT, TEAMWORK, ORGANISATION, ATTENTION TO DETAIL, AND EMPATHY, A QUALITY THAT SOCIETY NEEDS TO FUNCTION PROPERLY.
