LOST Recreation in Delta!. APPARENTLY NOT A CONCERN FOR DELTA'S CITY COUNCIL. We asked Delta's City Council to vote that Bayside remains zoned recreational to give more time for community members to purchase the club and reopen the building. Less than 40 signatures in favor of building new homes there and Nearly 1,000 signatures (104 from here and 900+ on paper) asking Council to help save Bayside. Council voted in favor (4-2) for the developers application to remove the 65-year-old Recreational zoning of the land, to knock down the Bayside Club and build two homes there.

The council thinks this is just about some old building but reading through your comments reminds me it is really about the history of the whole neighborhood and losing the spaces where we actually talk to each other. I am spending all my time trying to track down the developers to see if there is any wiggle room at all but they are mostly just sending me to voicemail which is honestly exactly what I expected.

I miss my community squash club, I miss my squash buddies, I miss Friday's drop in. No playing anymore ... Richmond is a long way to commute.
We need more, not less squash clubs in the Lower Mainland. The demand to play the game is growing and so is the area around Boundary Bay. First time stepping on a squash court was at Bayside and the place was always buzzing when the Saunders family ran the place!
Tsawwassen is a growing community with many new residential developments underway. City Council needs to find more recreational property for the community and not take any away. The new owners knew the zoning of the property when they purchased it. Please save the multi-use recreational club (with Squash).
Squash is a sport the whole family can share in. (90% of players are 16 - 54). 20 Million play squash worldwide and the numbers in North America are increasing. My understanding is there is a TON of new housing development going on (900 plus homes). Why remove one of the greatest outlets for family sport, health and recreation? and arguably the best location for squash facilities (besides maybe JTC). The best interest of BC is NOT to rezone this property. Keep it recreational.
If this treasure let go Delta will NEVER see anything like it ever again. Delta's only squash club. The club sits on the US border on Boundary Bay, which is also the best place for sail boarders around Vancouver.
I don't agree with this rezoning application. I've been a member for 19 years and throughout those years the members have provided hundreds of thousands of dollars of revenues into the local economy through this business. I have also seen many other locals use the beach front and come to visit the club as friends of members for socials over the years. The club used to have a thriving juniors program thanks to the Saunders family participation with proper effort of a RESPONSIBLE OWNER, that could be revived again. The more we enrich the community with amenities such as this the better off we all are. . Say yes to keeping the current property zoned commercial. With the development of the Southlands the need for a year-round squash/summer club will be even more pronounced. If you rezone it that that option is gone forever. Say no to this application. There is nothing in it for the community. Greg Condon

Why on earth would Delta council even entertain the idea of changing this zoning. With the coming onslaught of the Southlands development the last thing this area needs is more housing.
