In 1977 (over 43 years ago) LARCO developed the Quayside community for New Westminster and gave the City one million dollars to build a Community/Recreation Centre within the Quayside boundaries in lieu of bonus density. Now with a population nearing 10,000 people (over 10% of the population of New West) - the Quayside is still without a community space to gather in emergencies or socially. With only one tract of land left to develop such a facility (Poplar Landing) we believe it is time to the city of New Westminster and Metro Vancouver (co-owners of this property) to make good on this four decades old promise.

The Quayside Community Board, is asking for your support to have this important infrastructure built. We ask you to please sign this petition in support of building a Quayside Community/Recreational Centre within the confines of the boundaries which the City has identified as the 'Quayside Community' - for the express use of Quay residents. And that this 'facility' be of significant size to accommodate the population for such purposes as: community association meetings for free, exercise/sport equipment, builder-space, rehearsals, arts & crafts and a gathering space for neighbours to meet.
