Current and past students of Tidewater Community College Portsmouth Campus believe that there is a unique community of responsibility, student engagement and respect in the Student Activities Team of Patricia Allison and James Boyd that deserves recognition. Before current administration took office there was a homogeneous approach to communication. For more than 15 years Patricia Allison has been committed to serving students and advocating for leadership and engagement adding James Boyd to her team only 2 years ago. In those two years students and faculty have agreed that the life of the campus has been exciting and long overdue. James Boyd who is a graduate of Tidewater Community College and former SGA President along with Patricia Allison understand all to well the need for student input and leadership. Together they have fostered an atmosphere of leadership learning opportunities that has added value to the TCC motto: From here, Go Anywhere. It appears as if the hard work and dedication that she has given to the institution is being mishandled by the current administration.
The student clubs of the Portsmouth Campus have plans to serve and support the students who are taking classes during the summer semester. Unfortunately the blood drives, voter registrations, inaugurations, and social activities that have been planned have been denied. Not for policy violations, or irresponsibility of the parties involved, but for what seems to be a personal vendetta. Statements have been made by current administration that refers to the student body of Tidewater Community College "Just Students" and little has been done to show respect the individual needs and request of the student body.
This petition is being enacted to show the support and the impact that Patricia Allison (Ms. Pat) and James Boyd have had on the student body. It is our hopes that administration does not ignore the voice of the student body and continue on the path of dissension, but moreover they recognize the necessity of such a team.
We the undersigned believe that the office of student activities should remain in tact with the team of Patricia Allison and James Boyd, and that they should be allowed to do there job free of vendetta driven request.
1. All students currently attending TCC Portsmouth benefit from the team of Patricia Allison and James Boyd. It is there time, dedication, love, respect, and concern for the student body that makes them a non-expendable asset to the campus of Tidewater Community College (Portsmouth)
2. The College should understand the right and responsibility of students to use there voice to verbalize their wants, needs and desires, considering how there money is spent, and not what under connected administration may think.
3. The legacy of the community experience has always included social, community, cultural and leadership opportunities for students, and should give way to students to lead and decide on what these opportunities should be. TCC is highly ranked among the halls of the community college system and active campus life only adds to that place remaining.
4. We respectfully ask that TCC Administration (Provost) sincerely re-examine the short term demolition plans of student activities team of Ms. Pat and James Boyd and recognize the immediate impact a change like this will have on the student body.
