I grew up fishing in those waters under that name and it feels like erasing a piece of our local history. I have been fielding calls all day from neighbors who feel just as ignored by this proposal as I do.

I live on Squaw Creek. It's history is rich. Please don't change the name of our road. We lost so much in the already in the 2014 fire.
No we do Not want to change the name of OUR road because 1 person is offended. Squaw Creek MUST stay Squaw creek! As a Native American I must say no to this non native who is offended by the name Squaw I am a Squaw and I am PROUD of it. Leave our Community Alone!
Squaw Creek is an area full of History. By saying this name, nobody is throwing slurs or insulting anyone, it is simply naming a place. Wanting to change the name is tantamount to wanting to change or destroy History.
I spent a lot of time up SQUAW creek with the Rains family. I enjoyed every ounce of it. I know the pride my Native American friends have in their treasured town, valley and Squaw Creek. Please do not change what is not broken.
Leave Squaw Creek alone! This area which had a substantial Colville Tribe presence has never had an issue with the name. Some outside who has no understanding of the Methow Valley Community should not have a say!

Squaws did all the work and held the families together in a tribe. Just because white people used the title in a derogatory manner is no reason to change. The name is a history lesson in the making when a child asks why the road has that name. Keep Squaw Creek!
