Hello and welcome to the online petition to save McNab Creek in Howe Sound from the Burnco gravel pit project. We are a group of concerned citizens that want to save this area from development of any gravel pit mining in the area. McNab Creek lies on the north side of Howe Sound and is a pristine area with no road access and we believe there should be no industrial development in this area. We are totally against the Burnco gravel pit mine due to run off into the creek, into Howe Sound and potentially harmful disruption of salmon runs and danger to other wildlife species in the area. If you are against this Burnco gravel pit development, please help us by signing this petition. Thank you.

Updates

I met with legal counsel this morning to review the environmental impact assessment regarding the proposed gravel pit. We are currently drafting a formal letter of inquiry to present to the regional district office. I will provide a summary of their response once it is received.

The reach of this petition has hit a point where the project developers can no longer claim the community is indifferent. My team is currently finalizing the formal brief to be delivered to the provincial regulatory board regarding the salmon habitat concerns.

This mine will destroy an important and sensitive salmon bearing stream and valley. It must be stopped!

We have a property on Long Bay and have first hand knowledge and experience of the recovery of a variety of mammals in the area. It is unfortunate that senior levels of government turn a blind eye to the recovery that has taken place in the area. With the enhanced treatment of the runoff from the Brittania Mine and the closure of the pulp mill the recovery is very evident. The herring balls are very noticeable as are the return of the killer whales / Dolphins.

Howe Sound is finally getting healthy again. We cant let a gravel mine ruin all the progress made with the salmon and the whales.
