Sos has shaped me into a confident person, it has help me build relationships that will last a life time, and people for decades past feel the same way! through spring training we made relationships and bonded over the fact we were getting the opportunity to welcome new students to this amazing community! I feel like if we don't have spring training the students in the fall will see a disconnect with all of the SOS leaders because we would have all just met a week prior! I strongly encourage you to sign this so we can keep SOS the same and keep crews a thing the same way it has been for many decades before #savethesauce

Updates

October 2, 2019

I have been reading your stories about how these bonds shaped your own college experiences and I am moved by how deeply this program matters to all of us. These connections are the backbone of our community and I am working to ensure the administration understands exactly what is at stake if we lose this tradition.

Seeing this community rally for the program that shaped my own life is overwhelming. It proves that the bonds formed during our training sessions are worth fighting for.

Spring training promotes team bonding and prepares the leaders to interact with cultural humility and engage with people who have different love languages and introvert/extrovert levels (something that is very important when leading a diverse group and giving a good first impression). The time spent in spring training also promotes dedication to the program inspiring sos leaders to go above and beyond during welcome week and the following months. The effort is evident when talking to incoming students and is vital to the heart of the program

SOS is one of Biola’s biggest and most powerful ministries. Having spring training, retreats, and the crew structure is a big commitment, but that commitment is what teaches us how intentional we must be with our students and how important this program is. The enemy could work so hard in a group of volunteers who are around campus early for 2 weeks but he is so weak amongst a family who is serving God so passionately. Changing this program would not be honoring to the hard work that really goes into this entire ministry and program as a whole and to the rich seeds that have grown into Biola’s culture. This is a program that changed my entire Biola career and I would be so heart broken to see this as not an option for future, amazing leaders who are ready and willing to commit to serving others. SOS is a student’s first experience with Biola, and we can’t short cut that because efficiency doesn’t mean effective. Community, relationships, and intentionality are the core of what SOS exemplifies, and we can not lose that vision!
