For over a decade Shared Planet society has run a cafe on campus which provides cheap locally sourced food for students. Over the summer the University Management decided that this cafe contravenes University Policy. They are yet to explain this decision or policy and this entire process has happened without student consultation. Shared Planet Cafe gave students a space to engage in the community at the University of Aberdeen, to get involved in environmental activism and to access cheap healthy food. The cafe donated funds to a number of political and environmental causes, student groups and even help fund a living wage intern at People and Planet. Students deserve this space. Please sign this petition and help us Save Shared Planet Cafe.

Food on the campus in too expensive for students. Having soup at Shared Planet Cafe saved me so many times during the winter. I just don't understand why University of Aberdeen is not supporting iniciatives that help students.....

i hope that the management wakes up soon, this is a vital part of the university that allows students, staff and public to have a non-capitalist, non-gentrified space to share a common vision. shame on you management

Shared Planet is one of the best spaces for group study activities on campus. It's accessible, inexpensive, and food restriction-friendly. With campus becoming an increasingly-expensive and and unwelcoming space, closing Shared Planet would be AUSA seriously letting students down.

Shared Planet Café was a great scheme. I find it so telling that the only not for profit café on campus is against uni policy. If the uni, ausa or some massive corporation isn't making money off us they aren't happy.

The cafe provided a meeting place unlike any other in the campus/city and was a way of communicating messages around sustainability and alternative food provision which is increasingly important. It would be a real shame to lose such a space, especially with the likes of Starbucks coming in.

Shared Planet Café offered students and other members of society a nice atmosphere to sit down and have some cheap, organic and vegan food. closing it down without student consultation and without explaining their decision or policy behind it is frustrating.
