I'll be damned! Shared Planet has been, for me, much more than soup and a toastie. Indeed, that's where I met my homies. There were times where I spent there more time than I did studying. You see me gobsmacked right here.

Shared planet has always been a place for people to find together, to create something, to start projects. They advertise political engagement and environmental awareness. The university would lose a pillar of its value if shared planet was closed. But more importantly the students would lose such a significant opportunity to get engaged and become critical members of society.
I wanted to leave Aberdeen University until I found this society. Don't close it.

Food on the campus in too expensive for students. Having soup at Shared Planet Cafe saved me so many times during the winter. I just don't understand why University of Aberdeen is not supporting iniciatives that help students.....

This is unbelievable! As a former committee member I see Shared Planet Society as one of the most characteristically grounded society within the University of Aberdeen. I can tell without a doubt that if this society would be taken away from the students, the university will certainly loose the people who keep the integrity of diverse viewpoints related to our environment and beyond.

Students running their own co-operatives is an important part of personal development and should be seen as a real plus from an educational point of view. The Phone Co-op is active in supporting student co-operatives - listen to http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06d9p9z at 24.5 mins for more info. I find it astonishing that the university has apparently not consulted or given any reasons for their decision and hope their management will reconsider their position. As a former student this is really sad to hear. When I was there I saw more and more chains take over the uni, it seems they need one more!

i hope that the management wakes up soon, this is a vital part of the university that allows students, staff and public to have a non-capitalist, non-gentrified space to share a common vision. shame on you management
