On June 8th, there is a public hearing about a zone change from Residential R110, to Plan Development Residential PDR that would allow vacation rentals, townhomes, apartments, condos, etc to be built in the south hills amongst the residences in Santa Clara. Though just out of the bounds of the historical district, it is still in large view from the main road and will cover the hills.

Reaching this point has been a difficult road that left me questioning if anyone else noticed what was happening to our hills. Seeing so many people recognize the damage this zoning change will cause gives me enough strength to keep pushing forward.

Why does every city feel they need to get "on the map". What makes Santa Clara city so great is its small town feel (while being close to St. George). While I don't oppose certain types of development, we have to draw the line somewhere. Where these homes will be built, there still remains many Native American artifacts (burial grounds, mounds, petroglyphs, etc). If the city is looking for more tax revenue, maybe it should consider the reasoning behind this need. We moved to SC to be on the edge and border this beautiful desert wilderness to our west. Now that is currently in danger of disappearing with unsustainable future development.
Please keep the zoning residential on this property. I implore you to be considerate, thoughtful and dutiful in preserving the beauty of Santa Clara. In the end the money is not worth it; you are looking at short term ways to collect tax money and get income for the city. You are systematically destroying what is charming about our community. We (our family) emphatically disagrees with the zone change and the idea of this monstrosity to be built anywhere in Santa Clara. Sue (Lasswell) Yocum
Changing the zoning would definitely change the character of the city, and not for the better in my opinion. I would love to see that area stay as wild as possible. The motocross park and the other developments make the area less appealing to me. I moved hear to be close the wild unimproved land. Some of the land will developed and that is the right of the land-owner, but the zoning should not change, to accommodate outsiders in a way that will change what made the city appealing to those that live her now. I don't mind making the street 4 lanes.
I would hate to see downtown Santa Clara 's streets widen -clearly lose the cozy feel -trees -planters ! They make you slow down and BREATHE ! !
I have heard about this development, and I can see it from both view points. We live in the heights and would like to move to Old Santa Clara, however this does not draw me in, it pushes me away from wanting to live there. Old Santa Clara has so much history and stands out because of that. Splitrock is amazing at everything they do, so if this happens I know it will done beautifully, however it does not diminish the fact that we are developing more and more and more.
I do not think the zoning for this area should be changed.
This would be awful in this location.

I have no doubt any project done by Split Rock would beautiful. However, I'm signing the petition because I don't think Santa Clara is the right place for this project. I want to keep the same small town feel in our town that attracted me here. It is my hope that those hills always remain untouched.
