Please support the bravest and finest men and women in the State of Michigan. Police and Fire departments all over the State of Michigan have given many concessions including pay cuts, pay freezes, hiring freezes, using outdated equipment, benefits cost increases, and changes in schedules from 8hr shifts to 12hr shifts in many if not all departments
Please show your support for the men and women who put their lives in danger every single day of their careers and often times find themselves injured both physically and mentally for the rest of their lives. Please sign the petition and tell the House of Representatives to not go forward with House Bill 6074 and the adjoining 12 other bills that will negate a large portion of the healthcare benefits as well as pension amounts for ALL police and fire employees in the state.
These bill currently in the House of Representatives would force all cities, townships, and counties to negate and throw out contracts for both departments under penalty of law. The state would mandate all benefits be cut by 20% and recalculate the pensions of all employees to an unfair and benign number selected by the actuary at the state.
In addition to all current employees and future employees this bill would be RETROACTIVE and affect all retired employees as well as their families and spouses. Employees who have retired after 25-40 years of service and retired any time in the past would have the contracts, benefits and pay they receive and use as their only source of income in most cases suddenly ripped away from them. This would include all DISABLED and INJURED OFFICERS as well as the surviving families and spouses of KILLED in the line of duty OFFICERS.
Please show your support for police and fire department officers and sign this petition and tell the House of Representatives, who already have reduced benefits by legislation just a few years ago, to keep their hands off of police and fire benefits and pensions.
Police officers, Firemen and Firewomen have given their lives to protecting others please protect their livelihood from any more deductions. They have earned their pensions, it has been paid for in blood, sweat, family time, real time.

Seeing one hundred people stand up for our retired officers and active first responders brings me so much relief. My father gave thirty years to his department and I refuse to watch the state strip away the security he earned.

Seeing this kind of momentum brings me back to the nights my brother spent working those long shifts while wondering if his retirement would ever actually be secure. Knowing so many of you see the sacrifice these families make gives me a hope I honestly struggled to feel a few weeks ago.

Vote no on HB6074 and adjoining bills and leave pension and health care benefits for or active and retired public safety professionals. Many have no social security. Some paid into a separate retiree health care fund while working to guarantee it.
I earned my pension and medical, I paid into both I've been hurt on the job more than once, just want what I was promised 25 years ago! No one wants to go into the police or fire service any more because if this, you can't blame them! God help us!
We've given concessions over the years. I understand that some municipalities have unfunded liabilities they can't meet. Address those municipalities which have a serious problem. One size does not fit all. These bills are an overreach by Lansing.
As the widow of a police officer who did not die on duty, this is all I have. I have been a dispatcher for 38years but do not have much of a pension. Please do not take what little I have after all my families years of service to this state.
Please save our health care. I have a son who battled cancer and is currently in remission however it's costly with all the follow up. I am retired and was led to believe that our health care was negotiated in good standing. Thank you.
leave it alone
First the state decided to tax our pensions. Then the county of Jackson took 69 million out of our pension fund to balance their budget. The county then took more money out of our pensions for health insurance after they said they wouldn't. Now the state wants to pick our pockets again. When will it stop? When will government start holding up their end of the bargain?

A written contract, between employer and employee, apparently is not worth the paper it is written on. Have you no shame to break a promise to people who risked their lives' on a daily basis while employed. Where is the moral outrage at such a proposal.
