At present, USYD's Photographic Society (PhotoSoc) is at risk of losing its historic darkroom due to unforeseen circumstances.

Darkroom processes form the core of all photography, be it analogue or digital. The skills which we teach our members in the darkroom, such as developing film and printing from negatives, provide them with invaluable experience and form the foundation on which more complex photographic skills can be built. We provide students with access to an extremely affordable darkroom space, something which may otherwise be inaccessible due to the costs involved in hiring adequate spaces and purchasing chemicals.

The momentum is incredible. This darkroom clearly means as much to you as it does to me.

Keep the darkroom open!! Analog photography is making a comeback and we need the facilities to do it properly.

The darkroom is the best part of being in photosoc. Spent so many late nights developing rolls in there it would be a huge shame to lose that space.

Uni life is expensive enough as it is. Dont take away one of the few places kids can actually learn something hands on rather than just staring at a screen all day.

My time in the darkroom was the highlight of my degree. Cant believe they would even consider getting rid of it.

Seriously? Costs? That room has been there forever. Keep it for the next generation of students.

Photography is one of the most prestigious hobbies to be undertaken, and with prestigiousness comes great uniqueness in it's elements. One of which is the "dark room" utilized and known by many photographers. Highly valued not only from the quality of work produced, but also the antiquity of a dark room, having been used in society for an extensive period. They were created and have been used since the inception of photography in the 19th century. Removing it would be like throwing out a craftsmen'a ancient tool. Imagine if this craftsmen had made numerous projects of great quality from the vintage tool, and now it was taken from his grasp. While he had already adapted to new techniques of crafting, he had valued the work produced from this tool... Don't take this great technique from our photographers....
