The decision has come to whether or not UCLA will continue actual 35mm film screenings for their students. Instead of showing actual film, the archive is trying to keep the film in exchange for showing DVD's.
If you have seen an actual 35mm screening you know there is a great difference, and if you haven't seen one then signing this petition will help your chances of seeing such beauty. I'm a UCLA Film student and losing the right to see 35mm prints screened would be a travesty.
Please sign this petition and come see some great movies at the James Bridges Theater...they are free!! **This would also keep the archive from banning nitrate screenings, UCLA is one of 5 schools in the Nation that is capable of showing such gems, lets keep it alive! In the name of education, sign this petition.
The administration is currently reviewing our concerns about the shift to digital formats in the James Bridges Theater. Call the film archive office today to demand that they preserve the technical capacity for 35mm and nitrate prints. Check the petition comments to see how many fellow students agree that film education requires the real thing.

Reaching this milestone proves that the community is not willing to let our film culture fade away. Post this link on your Facebook and text three friends who care about cinema to keep this momentum moving forward. Call your department representative today and tell them that digital projection is no replacement for 35mm prints.

I have been coming to these screenings since I was a freshman. It would be a huge loss for all of us.

It is about the craft. If you are learning film you need to see it on film. PERIOD.
