Studios are an irreplaceable space for students to create.
UAL's policy to close studios over the Spring Break has been fought over by students yearly, as universities outside UAL manage to keep doors open whilst offering the same tuition fee. On the UAL website, it states that Camberwell will be open during the dates 21st March - 13th April, creating a false sense of hope that this would also include our studios, as both have never been described as separate entities. Studio closure disproportionately affectsstudents of low income who cannot afford external studios, whilst also taking away the very minimal amount of accessible studios for students that are disabled. This leads to three weeks where those who have the ability to access external studios have an advantage in workload and quality of work to those who do not, creating anunfair grading system. This especially reflects on those in third year working towards their degree shows and final grades.UAL pushes the narrative that the university strives for equal opportunities for all, but does not hold itself to these standards.
By signing this petition, we can provide evidence that the majority of the camberwell student body request for the studios to remain open for the sake of equal opportunity and the fulfillment of agreed tuition.
They need to understand, it's not just about profits or losses, it's about culture, creativity, and learning. United, we can make a difference. Keep out studios open !!!!

As a parent of a current student I completely agree. Far too little studio time available as it is. Studios should be open on Sundays and holidays as well.

I went to Camberwell in the 90s and it was so vibrant. I don't think they'd have even considered closing over Easter back then!

As someone who has worked as a curator and with artists at the V&A for many years, I think enabling students to have access to their working/making space is essential, especially during the lead up to their exams.

As someone who isn’t allowed to work at home - per UAL’s own accomodation T&C. I NEED the spaces open.

Every student should have equal access the studios to further their academic and/or creative advancement. As a creator, I know what a disadvantage it is not having an accessible studio.
