The Evergreen State College color facilities are being shutdown. The color darkroom and 16mm film development facilities are being closed leaving black and white facilities and digital. This color darkroom is one of four in the nation open to community users and that is at an academic institution.and is the best one. They have chosen to shut this facility down when there is wide support and when it is used not only by students but by the community. These facilities are paid for by taxpayers who are funding a liberal arts college. Please show your support of these artists by signing this petition, and share it with your community! Don’t defund the arts in liberal arts.

The administration continues to ignore our messages which is exhausting but it only confirms why we need to stay loud. I am spending my evenings gathering evidence on why these facilities remain vital for all of us. We are not backing down until they explain why they chose to strip away this resource.

Seeing this kind of momentum is exhausting but it proves that people still care about our craft. I am running on very little sleep and a lot of frustration but this show of support keeps me moving forward.

Evergreen has a world-class photo facility because of its analog components. Fine art photography means film photography now. Just ask the loyal students and assistants and a strong community willing to pay the dues to keep the place open.
The color processor enables not just the Evergreen State students but also the film community of the greater NW access to the color processor. There is no other place alike this! Film photography is not dead and it is a niche that you can leverage.
I taught color photography at Photographic Center Northwest. I and several colleagues enjoy printing at your lab, which is an excellent one. It offers a different photographic experience than that provided by a computer and fosters community, since many students and photographers are printing together at the same time.
Places like this are vital to the community and to the life of the arts in the Northwest. As an Evergreen alum, lifelong PNW resident, and public educator, I strongly urge Evergreen to rethink this decision.
The color darkroom and Photoland in general are so important to the Evergreen community and others who come to use our facilities! It is an amazing education opportunity for students and also helps to keep students employed. Shutting down the color darkroom would be a big loss to Photoland, Evergreen, and the students.
We need this lab?
Having continued access to analog film practices is an important part of the history of photography and how current students and community members stay connected to making their photographic art. As one of the only places publicly available for analog color work, it would be a sad day when access to this form of photography was taken away from Evergreen students and the PNW at large.

I was a student in "Visual Music in 16mm and 35mm Direct Animation" 2017 and gained so much knowledge through hands on learning in the dark room. Please stop taking the art away from the liberal arts college, Evergreen.
