Minister for Education, please, provide a site for the recently established Educate Together School in Westport and STOP trying to squash that school onto Holy Trinity's site for its long overdue new primary school building.

This is another example of unfair discrimination against 'minority patronage' schools. Both Educate Together and Holy Trinity School should have their own independent sites to fully develop their schools.
For 8 years I was Chair of the BOM and during that time we worked persistently to try and get a new building, but officialdom at local and national level has been unsupportive at every turn. The only truly helpful organisation were the Sisters of Mercy who owned the site and wanted the school to have it in the first place.
In the interests of diversity neither Holy Trinity nor Westport Educate Together should be compelled to compromise. Both school communities merit their own space in order to best meet their respective ethos.
Holy Trinity NS has waited long enough for a new school. As a past pupil and now a teacher and parent at the school I am very keen for the government to act now to build our new school.
There should be choice in education, closing smaller schools reduces parental choice and limits options for children who might thrive better in a more personal environment with smaller class sizes. Big is not always best! This school was a perfect match for my own son. Parents need choices!
The children need adiquate and safe space in their school and outside it.

It is a disgrace that after being given the 'go ahead' by the Dept. we are now all these years later being asked to compromise and fudge. Our school has been treated very shabbily indeed.
