There has been an angry reaction to proposals to close a Nelson church primary school and relocate it on a new site more than a mile away. The county council is considering building a new primary school on the site of the former Mansfield High School, Brierfield, which would accommodate twice the number of pupils currently at St Paul’s.
Letters have been sent out to parents and governors at the school outlining the proposals .
There has been no consultation about this and this will destroy the heritage of the area.
It will also mean putting a lot more traffic on the roads - more than half of the children at the current school walk there but will not be able to if the school is moved. We as a community want our children taught in a family-friendly environment. The community will be wiped away if the school is moved to another town.”
We would like the Goverment to take action to stop the upheaval & change to a valuable community.
After all what is a church School with out a church its just a School
The feedback from local families regarding the proposed relocation has been both consistent and clear. We are currently organizing our arguments to present at the next formal discussion with the council. This school remains a vital pillar of our community and we must ensure our concerns are properly addressed.

The momentum behind this petition highlights the deep connection our community maintains with the school. We are now preparing to present these concerns formally to the authorities who are overseeing these proposals.

A church school belongs next to the church. Stop trying to turn everything into these massive soulless academies.

Ridiculous idea. The kids will have to cross way too many busy roads and the traffic will be a nightmare. Keep it where it is.

St Pauls is the heart of this neighborhood. My kids walked there every day for years. Moving it to Brierfield makes no sense at all.

No consultation at all? Typical council. They dont care about the heritage of Nelson.
