We believe that land currently registered as Provisional Open Land, off New Laithe Hill, nr Newsome, is a very valuable asset for many within the Huddersfield area. This land is a well known tourist landscape, being part of the heavily photographed footprint of Castle Hill. The land is currently leased as farming land, and we believe that good quality farming land is in short supply and should be protected. We urge Kirklees Council to re-designate this land as Green Belt, and to ensure it is kept undeveloped for the benefit of future generations.

My family has walked these fields for generations and I refuse to watch them disappear under concrete. Please reach out to your neighbors right now to push us over our next milestone so the council finally takes notice.

Walking past the fields this morning reminded me why we started this fight for the land beneath Castle Hill. I am currently working on a formal submission for the council to ensure they understand that this green space belongs to the public rather than developers.

Our green spaces are important - to the environment, and to the health and well-being of the residents.

These fields are of considerable benefit to the community of Newsome, wider Huddersfield and the wildlife of this part of Yorkshire

Councils have no right to squander our previous and diminishing 'green' assets. We must call a halt and look instead to a sustainable redevelopment of the existing built-up area

It should be designated as green belt land, too many fields are being built on to fuel the building frenzy.

Plenty of brownfield sites to build on if they must! Open fields are an asset that should be saved for our children and grandchildren.
