The board officially reversed their decision and Mrs. Alikhan is returning to her role. This fight was draining for all of us but we proved that persistence pays off. Now we simply watch and ensure the school regains its focus on the students.

Dear Respected Board Members,
We as parents, teachers, students, alumni and concerned community members are deeply alarmed by your recent decision that has resulted in the forced early retirement of Mrs. Shahida Alikhan as the school principal.
We are perplexed with this decision. She has honorably and most devotedly served and ran the school for the last 29 years. She is a trusted member of our community. She is acknowledged for her outstanding contributions at every school event - including by the board members themselves.
We urge you to reconsider your recent decision and immediately restore her back as the school’s principal. Your inability to reinstate her back, having no viable transition-plan to replace her and the sudden departure of a trusted school principal leaves a deep scar and void. The failure to resolve this matter amicably will have a serious impact on the survival of our “mother school” in the New Horizon School system.
If the Board and the principal has any conflicts, they should be mutually and justly resolved so this precious Islamic educational institution in our community – serving well-deserved children in the middle-to-lower-income neighborhood of downtown Los Angeles endures.
Our sincere plea to you is to put aside any differences, jointly resolve issues, undo this damage and “save our school”. We hope you will take action with utmost humility, wisdom and urgency to make sure our school is protected. We look forward for your immediate response.

The board has remained quiet despite more inquiries from our side. It is exhausting to face this wall of silence while our school community waits for answers about Mrs. Alikhan. Please know I am still working behind the scenes to push for a direct response.

This is completely wrong. Mrs. Alikhan is the heart of this school and the board needs to listen to the parents instead of making crazy decisions behind closed doors.
Bring her back immediately. Almost 30 years of service and this is the thanks she gets? Disgraceful.
It is unethical, unIslamic and inhumane. the board should be asked to resign for allowing this injustice to take place.
We need her back..... like right now..... ASAP. At this moment in time and space continuum. She also really dedicated and understands all the stuff that needs to be done to reassure that New Horizon will be successful, as she has done for the last 30 years. MUhammad Bruh is out!!!!!!!!

Joe - it is easy for you to sit back and criticize those standing up for injustice, but the narrative you are trying to spin is complete and utter nonsense. Anyone with any stock and any history with either school knows that Mrs. Alikhan brought many positive changes to both schools. Prior to her, 8-10 people tried their hand at principal of New Horizon and none of them could handle it. As for Sunday School, she brought professionalism and accountability in her 10 + year tenure at that position. And FYI - the board is not above reproach! When is the last time that the board has done an evaluation of themselves? Using what criteria? Any outside evaluations? Any audits? Or gotten any board development training? What are their qualifications in regards to running a school? Clearly by making these types of decisions they have proved that they are not following CAIS best practices (where the board and principal work together for a year to find a replacement principal with parent and teacher input to have a smooth and successful transition). No professional school board calls parents and staff a week or two before school starts and pulls the rug out from under them, telling them that their long-time principal is just gone without an explanation. How about easy questions like - how is the board qualified to be on the board? How has the board ever supported the principal in her struggles to keep New Horizon School's doors open (despite the school's lack of finances) for so long? Or better yet, how much has the board ever fundraised (their responsibility) ever? As for the innuendos you are making - the loss of accreditation was the board's fault! not the principal's! As it has been clearly proved - the board and their actions are not something the principal can control! Her performance in both schools has been nothing short of stellar at worst. If you know how much she dealt with on a daily basis, you would not be making clearly insane accusations. No one i
The people who are complaining that firing Shahida was 'inhumane', do you ever ask yourselves why the 'mother school' lost its accreditation under her leadership. The school has been dyeing a slow death. Her performance in both regular school and the Sunday school (where she got paid handsomely) was abhorrent, at best. Hers is not a tenured position and their is no life time job promise. Have you asked yourselves if she has ever been given a formal performance evaluation? If yes, under what Key Performance Indicators? What positive changes have been made in the last 10/15 or even 20 years? No single person is above the institution. Yet, Shahida convinced herself to think otherwise. It's easy to make emotional statements from far/behind the keyboards. But, the proof is in the pudding. Why not call the school or ask any of the teachers how they feel about Shahida's departure?
