Started by Sinai Akiba Academy Parents 7 years, 5 months ago

The undersigned are parents of Sinai Akiba Academy students and alumni who wish to express our support for Head of School Dr. Sarah Shulkind, who has overseen tremendous improvements to our school, made it competitive with top private religious and secular schools, attracted teaching talent, enhanced the financial well-being, upgraded the programming and curriculum, successfully integrated the preschool/elementary/middle schools, and broadened the reach of the institution. We hope that she will remain at Sinai Akiba Academy for years to come.

We also call on the Board of Sinai Temple to accelerate urgently its efforts to provide greater decision-making and financial autonomy to Sinai Akiba Academy, which is critical to attracting and retaining top talent, reassuring donors, safeguarding enrollment, and retaining accreditation. We request that the Board appoint a working group of no more than three individuals to work with school representatives to identify a suitable mechanism -- to be voted upon by the Temple Board by the end of March 2019 -- to afford the school greater autonomy while maintaining the special relationship between the temple and school.

The sheer weight of this support shows the Sinai Temple Board that we are not going away quietly. They need to stop dragging their feet and give Dr. Shulkind the autonomy she has earned to lead this school properly.

I will be sorry if we lose such a brilliant and extremely capable head of school, that is Dr. Sarah Shulkind. Care needs to be taken to find a way for the temple and school to work more harmoniously together, both for the benefit of the institutions and for the benefit of the individuals at the institutions.

Financial security for the School is obviously critical for all constituencies. Given the Temple’s rejection of the Lanier gift inquiry into this issue is prudent and should be supported.

Dr. Shulkind is one of the most intelligent and talented leaders that Sinai Akiba has ever had. She has an incredible personality and very capable of handling this school’s business and it’s needs. Not having her to continue her great work would be one of the worst decisions made by Sinai Temple, resulting in loss of students and parents. Don’t disappoint our families! Keep her going strong.

Dr. Shulkind is kind, progressive, a great person and she knows the name of every student and their entire family. My other son goes to public school in Beverly Hills and they don’t even know anything about his autism. Dr Shulkind goes above and beyond at Sinai in a modern intelligent manner. Please keep Dr. Shulkind!!

As an alumnist with two nephews in Sinai and the intention to send my own kids to Sinai, I see what wonderful changes Dr. Shulkind has made and is clearly an asset to our school. Please do what ever it takes to make her stay!

Asking to support an executive is one thing. Asking to support an executive administrator AND sliding in that same petition for signatures a request for autonomy from the Temple that owns the school and to appoint a committee seems misleading. Isn’t this how the school got themselves into this situation to begin with? Good leaders make decisions not based on being loved and supported but rather what’s in the best interest for the Organization they represent. This petition is only breeding further discourse within our community.

She is one of a kind, school won’t ever be able to replace anyone liker her, with her leadership, school can achieve tremendous success, and secure the path to transform this school to be best in education and continuation of our Jewish Heritage for the next generation. Writing on the wall, school and community will suffer great setbacks in Unity, financial, Membership, participation, attendance and education if we lose her. Words of wisdom to Anonymous: Real people are not afraid to show support and have courage and sincerity to voice their criticism! Only a phony, would use cover Ha-emet (THE TRUTH) as a mask to portray as REAL. “Beauty of Judaism, you can question God” If you have something truthful and sincere to say, uncover your mask, “BE REAL”, floor is yours, we are here to listen, no judgment passed!
