Chris Davies MP has condemned Powys County Council's proposal to close Nantmel Church in Wales Primary School.
Powys County Council have yet again announced to parents and governors of Nantmel Church in Wales Primary School that they are threatening to close this fantastic school in December 2016.
The school lies in the heart of the Nantmel community and provides an excellent learning environment for pupils. This school has fantastic teachers and excellent support staff and, if closed, this resource will be a great loss to the local community. Not only that, pupils will have to travel up to 10 miles to get their education in order to get the best start in life that they deserve.
Chris Davies MP said “I am very disappointed to hear that Powys County Council are continuing on the route of the school closure plan and will be opening a consultation in relation to the excellent Nantmel Church in Wales Primary School. I had the pleasure of visiting the said school this morning and saw first-hand the high teaching standard and excellent attainment levels of the 30 pupils currently at the school. The pupils are a true credit to the school and indeed the local area. I can assure everyone, that I will do everything in my power to ensure that Nantmel Church in Wales School remains the successful, warm and nurturing learning environment that it is today."

I just saw we hit two hundred and fifty signatures which is honestly way more than I imagined back when I started this whole thing in my living room. It makes me think about those kids having to travel ten miles just to learn and how much this school really is the heart of the village. People are actually paying attention now and it feels like the council might finally have to listen to us for once.

I was looking at the numbers climbing and honestly felt like I might fall over because the momentum just feels so real right now. It is wild to think about how many people care about our school and those ten miles the kids would have to travel if they close the doors. The council has to be watching this now because you honestly cannot ignore this many people who just want our local kids to have a home base.

I just saw the counter tick over to one hundred and I actually had to do a double take because that feels like so many people for our small community. It honestly blows my mind that this many folks care about keeping the doors open at Nantmel and I am just sitting here staring at my screen in total shock really.

This school is at the heart of the community and will be a huge loss not only to the puils and parents who send their children to this school with its wonderful village/family atmosphere but also to all those who rely on the building for other functions as there is no other public venue in the area.
A beautiful school and amazing setting, I've had the pleasure of working on the grounds doing play sessions with play radnor. Brilliant children at the school , really confident and happy.. Must come from being in a smaller setting! Save nantmel school!
It is a lovely little school , we should do our best to keep it open! My mum has been the school cook/dinner lady there for 17 years!! I was once a student teaching assistant there! Please do not close it!!
This was where my foundations were set in order to prepare me for life's journey. Keep this primary school open for others to share in this experience. #whereachildisanamenotanumber
This is our children's school and the friendships here could never be replaced. Closing this school would effect the children's psychological well being and cause extreme distress. This is a very close knit family and community run school and should be treasured not closed
Small village schools provide the best start in life for our children. They are being lost because of the Conservative austerity programme.

The cost of providing services in a rural areas needs to be appreciated by all. Nantmel is not the smallest school not does it have the highest cost per pupil. It has provided an excellent standard of teaching over nearly 160 years. Long may it continue.
